And if you're still not convinced to stay away from the K&N type oiled filter, my car has just started messing about. It's given me a fault-code, P0102, so I've googled it which took me to https://www.obd-codes.com/p0102 and if you read down the page a bit it says
"Note: The use of a reusable oiled air filter could be a cause of this code, if it is over-oiled. Oil can transfer to the fine wire or film inside the MAF sensor and contaminate it."
No, I haven't got a K&N, just the normal folded paper filter in the standard box, but I still get a damn fault code. Ho ho bl**din' ho.

And then, whilst looking for something else, I happened across some loud Australians. Not a perfect test by any means, but then again I was quite happy with the standard plastic box anyway.

You'll need to take it off at some point to clean and reproof. Spray on the cleaner and wash off with a low flow hose from the inside out, allow to dry naturally then spray on the oil evenly, allow to dry then refit.

So just add oil when cleaning? If it lasts 50K miles, likely just buy another one.

All the "high flow" air filters that I have bought are sold dry and need to be oiled before use.

You don't need to clean them before the first oiling, but you do every other time you "change" them. They also need to be cleaned about twice as often as a paper one. It works out more expensive as the oil and cleaning spray costs about 60% the cost of an OEM filter.

If you want cheap, use a cheap paper filter. Throw it away every change.

If you want high flow, use an un-oiled "high flow" filter. Not much need to clean it as it's only filtering leaves

Neither of them will protect your engine from the particles that will reduce engine life from 250,000 miles down to 150,000 miles.

The next intake mod I am thinking about is to replace the air box with a plenum that will store air that has been filtered through an OEM paper filter.

The air will leave the plenum via the standard MAF and trumpet.

It will all be thermally insulated to keep the temperature as low as possible.

think I will just stay factory. After watching some of the utube videos where they test HP. there is not enough difference to make me change and they damage that can be done from the oil is not worth the risk .

The point that you're missing is that in the main people fit these "sports" filters for the sound they produce under acceleration, not for any performance gains.
