I asked for make Tribute model Kobra but they kept BMW make and moved the rest to model. It was close enough for me so didn't argue.

Did mine about 4 years ago and then it was a bit of a lottery as to what person picked up your case and how well or quickly they processed it. Might still be.

I used the form, a covering letter, photos pre and post build with reg plates attached, invoice from seller of kit. Took about 3-4 weeks to turn around.

My templates have been used by a few people over the years so happy to help should you want or need any.

I used your template Dave and it came back in 7 days.

Always remember
DVLA = Don’t Volunteer Little Alterations.
Only tell them what they need to know, nothing else.

I'm still in two minds.

I might just change the color using that tear off bit of the V5 and, otherwise, leave it as a Z3. Even put the Z3 badge on the back. 99% of people wouldn't know what a real 507 is so wouldn't know one if they saw one anyway.

I reckon the police, if they find themselves behind me wondering what's in front of them also haven't seen many Z3's in their life either - they're not a common car nowadays and as lonf as the vehicle check returns the correct color BMW with Z3 badge on the back then I don't think they'll bother me.

On the other hand, if my MOT guy tells me to change the V5 to make life easier for him and/or other

When you start going to car shows, you’ll be surprised how many people do know what a 507 actually is. I’ve even had people who have worked on them commenting they know it’s not real but it’s a good copy.
It’s very straightforward with a copy of Dave‘s letter to change the model name, and it will also make insurance far easier for you too. As you will not have to explain why it says Z3 on the logbook, but you’re insuring it as something else.

I agree with Dan. I would recommend going down the re-register route. Getting everything done Inc insurance MOT etc would be simpler to deal with if it matches what it is.

Pics of mine are on my build thread if you want to have a read.

Hope you guys don't mind me popping this thread back to the top.

Looking at a V627/1 form at
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/built-up-vehicle-inspection-report

In the top right corner of the form are boxes for Make, Model etc. I assume you write here the NEW make/model info that you want in the V5? Or did you all write Z3 in there and the new model elsewhere? If not in the top right corner of that form where else do you tell DVLA what the new make/model is?

Hi,

That field is related to the current make and model. You request what you would like on page 2. DM me your email and I can send you what I sent if you would like.

Cheers

Dave
