This year im looking at sorting the zeds sound system.
Although my zed has the H.K System fitted i think its seen its day.
It may have been good when the car was new but it now quacks and makes all the wrong noises.
Ive brought some new 4" rears and some 5.25" fronts opted for Rockford Fosgate units.
Even the 4" is punchy enough for the rear but its the clarity that will make the difference.
Has anyone found an amp that fits where the stock H.K on sits ? It works fine but it runs alsorts of different ohm ratings for the various speakers as stock and although it will run the 4ohm replacements i think upgrading it will be worth while.
I know some of you have under/behind seat slimline subs how do you find them what kind of room are they taking ?
I thought of removing the standard Hk sub box and building an mdf box to the size of the void and forward facing a single 8" sub Rockford do a slimline that would fit the space so i can upgrade but get it to look stock which is my aim.
I have gone for quite plain looking speakers my rears are only 3 inch at the mo so need to open up the holes and add grills so thought these looked the part.

The grills are plain so not far from the standard look kind of looking for understated if you get me..
Hertz also do an ultra slim sub at under 100mm deep if i go this route just not sure if im gonna have to fit a 5 channel amp and rewire the lot which doesn't phase me but if the HK amp will hold up would be easier.
Not sure its the amp thats the issue its the paper cores on the speakers that have just seen their day any one done this ?
Have read numerous articles but the more you read sometimes the more you get confused
Any advise appreciated

I have a seperat Alpine amp for the sub in the boot where the standard amp goes (I have a JL 6,5inch sub in custom box in place of the HK box.

For the 4 speakers in the car I have a special small Alpine amp that plugs into the back of my Alpine head unit unit and sits in the dash.
Very very happy. A quality amp just for the sub makes a big difference. Nice back massage on demand and able to control the bass independently of the other speakers.

I'll dig up the thread, was Zedonist that got looking at this set up.

Thanks Dino im thinking a mono amp for the sub headunit has full preout or switchable sub out so can control from the Headunit thinking on space more than anything.

I'm thinking of upgrading my sound system in the new year and I'm getting one of these inline amps to fit to my Alpine head unit. I'll keep an eye on this thread for a few ideas.
Incidentally, this particular inline amp has got some good reviews, it's a plug and play fitting and price is ok too

They sure are making amps a lot smaller these days which is a bonus for us with small cars with no place to put the big old style except the boot!! Now if only I had a clue how to do it!! JIM

Im leaning towards either a single voice coiled 4ohm or a dual coil 2ohm sub i think an 8" will work and will gut the stock box out and make a box to fit the space.
It only needs to be around 12litres and sealed so achievable in the stock space.
The H.K amp is dual 2ohm the issue seems to be the stock amp has 10% harmonic distortion built in ! So i think replacement will be in order to be honest but still looking

@Antm72 lots of pics and simple wiring methods needed to guide members who are less knowledgeable in this type of project.:banghead::nailbiting:

Our listening skills can differentiate between a quality sound system and a quality exhaust system - pump up the volume!

I have to say that I turn the stereo off just so I can listen to the engine, mainly when I am on my own having some fun.

It was Susan @oldcarman and @Sean d
The box needs to be a certain size to suit a speaker it normally is spec'd in the instructions .
I've looked at the standard set up and easiest if i want it stock and unseen will be a shallow 6.5" Sub
The box can be made the right size it will need to be made slightly different to Susans as i want the sub forward facing not upwards and visable so some of the measurements will be useful but box build will be different.
Im going to get all the speakers sourced and to hand then im gonna strip the hoops etc out and get to work building the box to fit the space.
