Sebastian Vettel quickest, Lewis Hamilton eighth in Monaco.

Hamilton was top in the first session but Mercedes were less competitive later, a concern for the weekend.
"We didn't have the greatest day," said Hamilton.

"Practice one was actually really good and we were quickest, but then in second practice we just struggled to extract the grip from the tyres and we were sliding around a lot.

Hamilton's team-mate Valtteri Bottas was 0.025secs slower than the Englishman in 10th place.

Jenson Button was 12th for McLaren on his one-off return to Formula 1.

Sebastian Vettel. No, wait. Kimi Raikkonen. No, Bottas... or maybe Verstappen... or Hamilton!

YELLOW FLAG!

LEWIS HAMILTON HAS FAILED TO MAKE IT INTO THE TOP 10 SHOOTOUT!

14:41
Just what Lewis Hamilton did not want.

Stoffel Vandoorne is into the barrier, the yellow flags are waved and everyone has to abort their laps meaning Hamilton goes out.

The Briton shakes his head. "That's me out, right?"

"Yep, sorry Lewis."

Monaco Grand Prix

Summary

  1. Race starts at 13:00 BST
  2. Raikkonen on pole, Vettel second
  3. Hamilton starts from 13th
  4. Pit lane start for Button
  5. It's been 16 years since Ferrari last celebrated a win in Monaco, Michael Schumacher triumphing back in 2001.
Jenson Button starts what he has every intention of being his final grand prix today. Button was slightly non-committal when asked about his future - “Who knows?” he said, when asked whether he was open to doing it again. “I don’t plan on it” - but the message between the lines was clear. Is this you done with F1 now, Jenson? “I was in November, so…” .

'If there's an overtake, I'll give you a tenner'

Jenson Button doesn't fancy his chances of making his way through the field from his pitlane start.

"If anyone overtakes here I'll give you a tenner," he tells Natalie Pinkham on the drivers' parade.

********
'I am still sweating out the alcohol

Daniel Ricciardo, who wasn't particularly happy yesterday with his team's qualifying tactics, has been speaking on the drivers' parade today...

"I didn't sleep actually. I was out all night partying - I am still sweating out the alcohol....

"Not really. I slept well and got my eight hours. I feel better today and the sun is shining so hopefully we can find something positive and make something happen today.

"Even though the majority of us live here, the track is transformed and we barely recognise anything but there are a lot of cool perks at this circuit..."
