Albert Park – The Facts
The Circuit
Pretty much in the centre of Melbourne, Albert Park uses existing roads and the circuit is built up and dismantled every year with the regular joggers and skaters being replaced with 900bhp racing cars, for 3 days. It’s bonkers, but a great track and a firm favourite with it being the season opener.

What are the main changes?
The cars are wider, more physically demanding to drive and much faster than last year, with lap times expected to drop by up to five seconds.
Bigger cars and extra downforce is, however, expected to make overtaking more difficult, with several drivers reporting after testing that it is difficult to follow another car closely.
More durable Pirelli tyres could also lead to more one-stop races.

Essential Fantasy GP Tips
If 2017 gets off to a horrible start then you need to be brave and act sooner rather than later! If you’ve picked midfield outfit on some whim that they’ll be the surprise package, don’t wait till the likes of Alonso takes residence in his sixth deckchair before you change your line-up. In a similar manner, don’t get spooked by an unexpected early retirement or a poor first race day, re-consider why you chose that driver or team and think whether anything has truly changed since then. Also, don’t forget that you get unlimited team changes for the first two races and then a further eight free changes after China – it is never too late to get back in the game.
Many players spend a considerable time agonising over where to spend the bulk of their budget – can you afford a Hamilton/Mercedes double, is Bottas the wiser choice, how do I get Verstappen involved, etc. However, some of the most important decisions can be around who you chose for your “cheap seats”. Haas were a surprise package in early 2016 and anyone that selected a Haas/Grosjean double from the outset will have been richly rewarded. In addition, don’t allow your personal opinion of a driver or team to cloud your judgement from a Fantasy perspective… Jolyon Palmer had a fairly miserable 2016 on the track but ended as one of the most valuable drivers for points per million spent in the game!
Now it is time to switch our attention to Melbourne and some other tips that may be helpful to consider before the race weekend! Predictions are always difficult for the first weekend and I would recommend some close watching of the practice sessions before making your final decision. My gut feeling is that the gap has closed to Mercedes but they will still be the safest bet going into Melbourne, with wins in 3 consecutive years prior to this, although an adventurous player may want to be bold with the podium predictions and hope for some early season gremlins alongside that upgraded Ferrari truly delivering.
As always, predictions for the first retiree is always a bit of a lottery but McLaren’s limited testing time may play against them come Sunday.

Oh this is the absolute highlight of final practice! Nicole Kidman is getting introduced to Kimi Raikkonen.
Kidman has a look that suggests she has little idea who he is.
Kimi is his usual stoney-faced self, but that's probably how he would react meeting anyone.
Unless they had ice cream with them.
