:arghh: :arghh: :(:(:(:(
Been tracking the trailing arm from the USA, it landed ages ago at Heathrow but then went up to Coventry, where it cleared customs about 5 days ago..... This was using the tracking number from the USPS ( USA postal service) but today I put their ref into Parcel force and it came up with a Parcel Force tracking number , located now in the Solent Depot and a message to say a letter had been sent to me by parcelforce for payment of customs duty,
God knows how much that will be !!!!!!
Hope the letter arrives tomorrow

Autodoc parcel from Germany has also cleared customs and will be delivered on Monday.

Parcel from Sopers will arrive Tuesday by courier

So next week should be swamped with parts

After getting some crap news about Tricia on Friday, and subsequently missing a trip up to ZSHQ on saturday, which is always a great day out, I decided to occupy my time today working on the car.

First....remove all the wiring and brake line clips from the underside

After spraying with penetrating fluid , and easing them back and forth, managed to get them all off without breaking any of the studs off. So a good start.

Next was to remove the fuel filter cover....same process on the body nuts. And again all removed and no studs lost

I was hoping to find more brake line connections, but no !!!!!, so had another go at the ones near the back and managed to separate one of them. The other one is rounding off and wont budge. So I will cut it off and reflare the pipe when all the brake pipe tools turn up next week.

I put a blanking plug on the end of the one I did manage to get apart.

Also I had a go a straightening the pipe I took off. Not that I will use it again but just to see how easy it is. i will use it to practice doing flares and bends when all the tools arrive.

Not too bad considering how bent up it was.

Then back to painting :arghh: :arghh:

Masking , then zinc primer and Topaz Blue........

I did remember to put the roof up and mask off the holes so I didn’t spray the roof through the shock mounting holes!!

I also went over the repair in the boot

To be honest with all the Fosters....I wasn’t sure if I was spraying Topaz Blue paint or beer as the cans looked the same..

But seemed to turn out ok.

Also painted the rear hubs
5BBD3707-439B-4E77-920E-183530FD4FB0.jpeg

Primed and finished with black stonechip.

That was all for today.
So next will be the underside....

Some more very good progress mate. Some info in case you didn’t know is that copper “work hardens” by that I mean the more you bend it the harder it gets. To anneal copper (soften it) you have to heat it red hod and quench it in cold water, which has the opposite effect on steel.

Not a good start to today......
After hanging on the line for about 20minutes, got through to the Parcelforce Solent depot.......

Customs charge for the trailing arm......£76.41. Robbing B****rds !!

About a 33% of the cost price of the part. 🤬🤬🤬

After the shock of having to pay so much import duty....carried on with the cleaning and prep work under the car.

I spent more time washing the underside this morning than I normally do cleaning the 1.9.... sorry Andy !!

But then wire brushed and treated all the studs underneath....and while that was drying masked off the wheel arches as didnt want to ruin what I already had done.

A couple of coats of zinc oxide primer, then a grey stone chip. I was going to use RAL7002 which is a close match...but the price of it and ‘ its underneath anyway’

And in the middle of all this....a parcel arrived
6958A188-29E9-454E-B92C-A9914BCB72C9.jpeg

Shocks, rear wheel bearings, boot lid stays, rear top mounts and drop links......and I have a horrible suspicion that I have also ordered the drop links from BMW.......so might have a pair for sale soon =))

Another day, another Problem.........

I ordered the rear bearings from Autodoc, and had a call from them to say the Meyle ones I selected wouldn't fit the car.....despite it say they were compatable on the Autodoc website......Their technical dept offered a Ridex alternative and said thet they were the ones for my car....so went with it.....

b*******s !!!!!! Just checking through parts this morning ready for a ZSHQ visit.......and the nut supplied with the kit is bigger than the shaft its meant to fit on!!!!!

AA4B66DA-3570-463E-901D-9AE508160CFE.jpeg

Cant check the bearing at the moment as I dont have either of the trailing arms to measure, although the one from the USA should be here later today.

Emailed Autodoc to get an explanation, and the correct parts sent asap. And to arrange a courier to collect the Ridex ones as I dont have any faith that these Ridex bearings are correct.

Nothing is ever easy !!!!!

That’s a bag o’ rats. I bought a pair of rear wheel bearings for the Eos, both have developed a fair amount of free play already so trying to get a refund. Seller not co operating as I fitted them myself and always replies to email just after their office hours finish. Going to contact credit card company asking for charge back if they don’t sort it very soon.

After a bad start to the day.....got worse in the form of a neurology appointment at the hospital.......one of the tests was putting sensor pads on my ankles then zapping me with electricity to see if they could get readings.....yes they bloody did.....painful or what !!!! I think the consultants last job was on Death Row =))

After coming round .........I had a slow 40mile drive home. But....the day brightened up....I was expecting one parcel and got home to find two. ( and thanks to my neighbour for taking them in for me)
18AA2574-E61D-40E8-A22F-AA652C319CD9.jpeg

A pristine spare wheel and and full toolkit in good condition with delivery for £80.00
AE6A9918-A3E0-4A86-AB10-B5544E7C176A.jpeg

All I had on the car when I got it was a crap rusty wheel that was falling apart, a jack that may clean up (?) and the 10mm socket. So thats all sorted now.

And ......:):):):) my O/S trailing arm.....still with loads of bit attached
Hand brake cable, brake shoes, brake pipe, some clips , drop link bracket, h/brake cable bracket, ABS sensor, back plate and hub.
And all in great condition.
I think I have bought all these as new parts so will have all these as spares which I will sell of later.

5C4C4BA1-3338-4DAE-9A4D-EF3EB5ECC950.jpeg

Thinking about it......I have bought the two new brake lines but they will come as straight tubes with the two ends on. I think, looking at it, I will use the one from the arm and use it to bend the opposite side ( as a mirror image of it)

Still no response from Autodoc ( surprise surprise !!) but I will do some measuring to see if the actual bearings they sent will fit.

I will carefully take the parts off tomorrow so its ready to take up to Lee on saturday ( he can remove the bearing .....he has the technology:thumbsup:), ready to be stripped and powder coated.
Might even remove the front struts, ( to get the springs off) plus the front ARB ( plus brackets) and take them up to be done as well ( ssshh! Dont tell Lee )

Over the next few days I should see all the parts from Sopers, and all the brake line tools.

Already building up a new list of parts to get..............fuel filter, cable holders, brake pipe clips......

That arm is in bloody great condition mate, a new one wouldn’t look much different so I would say you got a good deal (apart from import duty).
Oh, and how come you got a 10mm socket?, that’s usually missing. ;)

Tony.
