Thank you! Thats an awful lot of money and it's an absolute shame that this has happened especially after paying that much for a respray. I've been quoted a grand for the full car and then a different company quoted me £400 for just the bonnet...

I want to get it done as cheaply as possible while still having an excellent end result.

Having read the post I'm also beginning to ask whether it's worth tampering with the paint that's on the car as it does look very nice as it is.

The purpose of my respray will be to get rid of the dent on my bonnet (the one I made) and also remove any little scratches on the car... Oh and there is some very very little surface rust that needs attention.
Normally I'd say you pay for what you get but not in my instance. But that said a £1000 is very cheap. I had 3 quotes and we're all between £2000-2500..

My advice would be don't go for a £1000 respray @Faheem as generally you get what you pay for. If you can wait try and save up to get the best result you can, it will pay off in the long run.

Agreed mate, a BMW Main Dealer quoted me £3k for mine so that's about the going rate I would say Dave.
I got 3 quotes and all were between £2000-£2500. I went down the middle mate. Wrong decision!

Expensive doesn't always mean good, @Grumpy, IMO you paid top money and should have got a top job, we had a lady in for some work last week, she needed various bits of work on her Merc, we charged her £600 inc vat, she picked up the car and was over the moon with the work and then she went on to tell us that she got quoted £3000 + vat at the Merc dealership, when she was leaving a salesman that knew her told her to bring the car to us as in his opinion she would get a better job.

OK, I appreciate the bodyshop (Alton cars) aren't responsible for any of this but they did buy JD bodyworks out. The guy I spoke to said they have to honour any TRADE work that comes backs to them that was done prior to the buyout.
I have been talking with Jue and if Alton cars don't come back to me I may go to trading standards to see where I stand. This is in no way to have a go at Alton cars but to see if as a retail customer I have any come back with them or not. I asked at the inspection point if Jamie who owned JD bodyworks still works for them. The receptionist thought he did but no longer at Mansfield. £2200 is a hell of a lot of money to me and took a lot to save. I am now stuck with a car that looks far from its best due to shoddy workmanship. The work is 2 years old, the bumper has failed and assume the front will go the same way and most of the panels have got sinkage marks and are very flat with little shine which the guy at Alton cars picked up on, I said nothing about anything else other than the rear bumper.

What do people think? Am I right to pursue this or barking up the wrong tree?? @Sean d @sata @Russell O.

No paint expert mate but from a poor service angle and on the proviso it's not costing you I'd just keep badgering and complaining. Nothing to lose and it's free to do mate.

Bonjour Andy! Yep that's how I'm starting to feel mate but I don't want to push at Alton cars to much, I feel it's a bit unfair as they didn't do the work. I'd just like to know if they have to honour the work from a retail point of view.

A free chat with your local Citizens Advice would be a good start.

Did you get a warranty with the work? I believe BMW approved body repair shops provide a 3-year warranty.

Got nothing David. Asked for on going photos and receipts. Never got a thing from them.
