It might be worth getting together a number of questions for the manager when you speak to him again. A couple I was thinking of are:

1. Did the new company buy the terms and conditions of the previous company?
2. If they did, what are the terms of customer warranty?

Just a thought. I hope you get some sort of redress.

Thanks Brian, I hope so too. If not it's a DA polisher for Christmas and a lot of time trying to get it to come back up. Regardless of that the bumper will have to be painted again.

Only just got back from Holiday this morning mate so apologies for not replying sooner.

I would keep on to them to be honest but their will probably be a point when the stress of getting nowhere is bothering you
and just get it sorted.

Also mate a DA won't be a lot of use to you for serious rectification work.
You may have to get @billz down with his Rotary and follow him round with the DA.

I guess in law you have no contract with Alton Cars Dave. The flatness of the clearcoat could be down to insufficient thickness following flatting back and polishing. I've got a wide body rear bumper I could paint up for you should matters not get resolved. I ended up painting my zed myself as can't afford to pay folk to do it and whilst not being a painter most people seem to think it's a decent job. I still use twin pack (Glasurit or DeBeer Air Dry) as don't have the high air movement required for water based. Keep badgering as you've nowt to lose.

Bless you mate thanks. I'm pushing to try and get it rectified first but suspect I won't have any joy. If I fail in my mission then yes please mate that would be great. I'll keep the thread going to let others know how it's panning out so stay tuned in for further info!!!

That's a very generous offer, I would see what depth of clear coat is on and then attack the worse areas that have sunk with 2000 and finish with 3500 on a DA sander, wet of course, hit it with a direct drive rotary polisher with Farecla G3 (reformulated water based with no fillers) all this will need is a coat of wax when done.

@Grumpy, apart from the bumper is the rest of the paint still moving or has it cured, try tapping with your finger nail and see if you can mark it.

Sean, it never stops amazing me the generosity of the people on this forum. The help I have received from certain people on here is staggering to be honest. I do not have the skill set of some of the guys on here but I will always repay in any way I can help.

Only the rear bumper mate upto now, I am worried the front will go the same way in time. I'll try the nail test shortly and get back soon.

The trouble is with it been resprayed before then it is virtually impossible to determine how much top coat they have applied. Even with a depth gauge you could read same levels but one area could be more base and the other area could be more top

Try the nail test on the area's that have sunk, if you can't mark it you stand a good chance of saving it, if its soft, I'm sorry to say you will be wasting your time trying to polish it as it will just move again.

I forgot all about you paint problem at Tony's meet mate, wish I had taken a look at it.
Don't worry mate, it was a busy day. Pictures of the dull paint don't show up really so would be a waste of time. Being in the job what's your thoughts on the whole situation?

I agree, its difficult but by giving it a light polish you can look at the depth, its a tough call though.

If it does not work out with them then i would suggest machine polishing one panel and see how it stands up before making a decission mate

To be honest it a real tough call as the only way to garantee work over such a long time is to fully strip all panels that have previously been painted back to bare metal and work from there, the problem is people don't want to pay for that so body shops are kind of in the lap of the gods as to whats been applied in the past,

When I did my Z the bonnet had had a previous repair that wasn't to clever, instead of stripping it I used flatted it and used a high build primer on top, it looked great for the first few weeks but has sunk and not fully cured.
