That first corner shenanigans was entirely predictable somewhere down the pack. Shame for poor old Max being the filling in a Ferrari sandwich. In such conditions best to make sure you make the second corner intact rather than racing for position out of the first. I wonder if that will appear top of Ferrarii's tactics in future.

Yep, and they are trying to blame him for it...!!!!

'Max should be exonerated from any blame'

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, speaking to Sky Sports about the first-lap incident involving Max Verstappen and the two Ferraris: "Anyone who tries to put blame on Max Verstappen for that needs their eyes testing".

"He told me he held a straight line and tried to get out of the way but they came so quickly from either side".

"Max should be exonerated from any blame for that incident."

"We didn't have the Friday pace, little disappointed to miss out on a win but I am still grateful with another podium."

"I watched the chaos unfold in front of me. It was probably good that I had a bad start. It looked like three tried to go into one. I don't know whose fault it was."

I don't think that if the tables were turned that the drivers would have been let off. The very fact that both ferrari's were involved automatically gets some degree of leniency from the FIA that others may not have received.
Racing incident - almost certainly.
Careless - driving in a way almost certain to limit your options in such conditions, that too. Worth the risk - clearly not.

It was certain to happen. Creates a lively start - Yes. But, for everyones sake maybe, while nobody likes them, a safety car start might have been better all round for the race and championship.

I get the feeling that they're using safety cars as a way to spice up the spectacle of boring races, at one point Hamilton asked why did they not use VSC, but that doesn't bunch the cars up again which is unfair on someone who has built themselves a lead only to have it taken away.

Tony.

IMO Vettel caused that chaos and is entirely to blame, but the rules allow it.

Vettel didn't get the start he needed, so preceded to closed down on Max who had Kimi beside him and nowhere to go.

The rules need to stop this closing down technique certainly on the start. If you want to be first into the first corner, learn to nail the start like your team mate did, so he can't blame the car!

The outcome is, Vettel destroyed what would have been a damn good race. I my view there were 5 contenders to win it, and he took out 3 of them through an arrogant move. It was also a circuit Alonso stood a chance of bagging some notable points.

He needs to be reminded that the fans that ultimately pay his wages, want to see a 2 hour battle, not a 2 second pile-up.

Personally, I think the rules for the start should be, you hold your lane unless you are overtaking a car in front. Squeezing cars into the wall just isn't honorable racing and is down right dangerous.

Oh, and he completely f*&ked both my predictions and my teams! Thank God Carlos Sainz is my "cheap" driver

Did anybody predict Raikkonen to be first to retire?

Nope, Palmer every race for me thus far. Still bagged a reasonable pot of points though so can't complain. Vettels lack of words painted the picture, guilty and he knows it. On the up side Hamilton took great advantage and bagged me some nice points, which was nice :D

yeah but Hamilton's only threat was Riccardo and he had an iffy gearbox.

So, a non race, Cheers Seb!

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel set the pace in second practice at the Malaysian Grand Prix as title rival Lewis Hamilton struggled in his Mercedes.

Vettel headed team-mate Kimi Raikkonen by 0.604 seconds with the Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen third and fourth, and Hamilton sixth.

The Briton, 28 points ahead of Vettel, was a massive 1.416secs off the pace.

The session came to an end early following a major crash involving Haas driver Romain Grosjean.

Grosjean was unhurt following the accident at Turn 13, which was caused when his right-rear tyre was punctured by a loose drain cover.

Officials went out on track to investigate what had happened and the rest of the session was cancelled.

The drain cover was loosened by Bottas' Mercedes, which went through the corner shortly before Grosjean. Raikkonen, right behind Bottas, then dislodged the cover and left it stuck pointing upwards, leaving Grosjean's right-rear wheel to tear across it.

Max Verstappen is a teenager no more.

The Dutchman turns 20 today. It seems like only yesterday that we were banging on about Max Verstappen not being old enough to drive on the roads, despite being an F1 driver.

Will he make it a birthday to remember in qualifying later?
