It is what it is, enjoy it, but you can fit the instruments, just arrived from Grassbanks
It looks like his fuel gauge incorporates a low fuel light. I had to open my gauge and retro fit an LED and some electronics.

It saves a lot of investigative work if you just run off a cluster. It also allows you to keep the servicing lights.

Warning light on water temperature and oil pressure gauges. This kit really has had some thought put into it.

The heater controls incorporate the cables for the flaps so you need to use the existing BMW heater panel, I fitted it to the back of the front section of the centre console and fitted 3d printed knobs with longer stalks than the original BMW ones. Looking to get the next one cnc made out of alloy.
I thought as much on the control unit. I was maybe planning on mounting it facing directly downwards under the dash so the knobs are visible but the control panel not, mounting it behind the dash makes sense.

The other solution I have seen is to set them low down on the centre console behind a mesh speaker grille on a custom radio/speaker box leather clad.

I would want it recessed further under the dash than the pic which would be possible with the radio at the bottom and the speaker grill at the top.

A lot of thought here. Only one thing that is weird, Gauges in Italian, but tell tale lights with English legends?

Edit 17.09.21

My mistake, the original photos of these when Justin made the first set had the tell tales in English, they have now been amended to Italiano as mentioned by @jaguartvr

Good news as mine come next week!!!!

Small amount tonight only:
  • Partially rectified my cxxx-up with the n/s sill length by grafting on an extension with glass fibre
That’s it.

Going to need some good filling later.

Today's efforts.

On the car, absolutely none at all.

Just finished work:

4-mortgage applications, 3 agreements in principle, 2 pension transfers and a Partridge in a Pear Tree!!! Most fees I have done in a day for a while.

Have to pay for the Fauxrarris somehow!

Edit on the Instruments

Good news as mine come next week!!!!

Did do an hour and a half on the car last night but not worth taking any pic,s as it was only a bit of Tiger Seal glueing of sills and some of the rear end, so all you would see is black mess! I hope the hell I set the sills in the correct positions as they have been a pig to get right, I think I am going to have some Glass Fibre re-enforcing to do to make sure they do not move/crack on the joins.

I will post some more progress after this evening's session.

In which post Bill? What have I done wrong this time?.......
Nothing - unless there's something you want to confess 😂😂😂 just thought the auction price was good until I saw it was a 'fascinating project' and without an engine!

The weekend was spent doing some engine work which I have loaded into the performance how to section here:

This is an inlet manifold swap from M52TUB28 to M54B30 with a change of ECU, removing the PCV breather system and adding an Oil Catch can.

I needed to get this done before mounting the front clam section as, once it is on, I do not really want to take it off again. Access to the engine bay is great with no Z3 wings, lights etc. Not so much to get in the way and swear at!

I did also do a little bit of sorting on the bodywork, mostly measuring and marking up where attention is needed. Petrol flap went in OK.

Looks like next to nothing done took 1 1/2 hours!

  • Masked off the upper part of the windscreen to spray with 2k black glass paint
  • Used up the rest of the tin on the underwings, brackets and engine bay
  • Removed all the lights and chrome (they were only on to get the hole fittings right
